A celebration of love and beauty shared together in loyalty, across winters and summers, in flight and on the ground, the dance of the cranes remains an inspiration even today.
Here are my first attempts of capturing them in aquarelle, in Indigo Grey, Crimson lake, Jaune brilliant and Ivory black.
A crane calls to its mate
across the frozen marsh
love answers without words. (Chiyo-ni)

In the moonlit reeds
two cranes stand motionless
love needs no motion. (Yosa Buson)

Cranes dancing together
their white wings brush the dawn,
one heart, two shadows. (Matsuo Basho)

Cranes on the pine branch
one wing shelters the other,
winter knows no parting. (Matsuo Basho)
And, to close, here is my favorite haiku.
Two cranes at the riverbank
Necks entwined at sunrise,
the world forgets to end. (Yosa Buson)
